2015-2016 has been a pivotal year to one and all of us here, at K.V.G. Dental College & Hospital, Sullia. It is an important milestone, a year when our beloved college completes 25 glorious years of excellence and service in the field of education. In view of the Silver Jubilee Celebrations, 25 has been a number that various programmes have been revolving around.
“THE DREAM PROJECT”
Our beloved Principal Prof. Dr.Moksha Nayak had an ambitious dream project in mind. The aim was to conduct over 25 Continuing Dental Education Programmes and workshops from October 2015- October 2016. It is an overwhelming feeling to see to it that the project has been successfully fulfilled. These workshops have been graced by various prominent resource persons and subject specialists who ensured enhancement of clinical skills and knowledge. The feather to this cap was “Learn Together, Work Together” motto. Wide spectrum of programmes conducted by all 9 specialised branches of Dentistry which is quite a feat to achieve.
The New Year January 2016 brought with itself a new light to all the peripheral areas of Sullia. 25 free dental camps were organised at Puttur, Madikeri, Kasaragod and other regions of Sullia Taluk. Rural Oral Health is taken very seriously as per the vision of K.V.G. Dental College & Hospital. It is a matter of immense pride that over thousands of people have benefited by this small step that we have taken towards community service.
“ALL OUR BRIGHT TOMORROWS, START HERE.”
‘Intern’s Training Programme’ was carried out keeping in mind the above dictum. Our target was to prepare the ‘ready to graduate’ budding dentists for the competitive world outside. A wave of confidence was instilled in them with a hands on course on injection techniques and tips & tricks in exodontia.
“ESSAYS AND EXHIBITIONS”
On account of the Oral Hygiene Day, our Dental College under the able leadership of Dr.M.M.Dayakar it is decided to impress upon the young minds the importance of Oral hygiene. An essay competition was carried out in the K.V.G. Dental College regarding importance of good dental care. Various school children participated enthusiastically and prizes were given out to the top three essays.An exhibition was also conducted and well attended by over 3000 school children, who took back home lessons in dental care and so much more.
“FOR THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE, TO THE PEOPLE”
A slogan rally and a street play was enacted to create awareness among the general population of Sullia. The role of much neglected oral health was highlighted upon.
An Oral Health awareness training programme was organised for ASHA workers of Sullia taluk. More than 100 ASHA workers participated and benefited by this thoughtful initiative.
Dept. of Pedodontics played a pivotal role in adopting two government schools from the periphery of Sullia. These schools were taken under our wings for providing dental health education and improving children’s oral health from the month of June 2016 to September 2016.
“CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME”
The faculty and students undertook a rather noble cause of Blood Donation in association with the K.V.G. Medical College by organising a ‘Blood Grouping and Donation Camp’. The highlight of the program was not only donation of blood by 30 students, but also to gather contact information of more than 500 people who have volunteered as emergency blood donors.
‘ALL WORK AND NO PLAY MAKES JACK A DULL BOY’.
On the occasion of Silver Jubilee Celebrations K.V.G. Dental College hosted Mysore zone RGUHS Volleyball tournament on Sept.7th 2016. Annual Sports Day celebrations were carried out on Sept. 10th with great pomp and show. The occasion was graced by the esteemed player of the Indian Kabaddi team and Superstar of Pro Kabaddi League Mr.Sukesh Hegde.
“CREATING SMILES, CHANGING LIVES”
The month of August was a special one for the ever hard working Dept. of Prosthodontics. They made the impossible possible by delivering 25 absolutely free Complete Dentures to all the patients, thereby paying a tribute to the remarkable milestone of 25 glorious years of this esteemed institution.
“A MOVIE ON THE MAN WHO LIVED LIKE A LEGEND”
Dr.Savitha Sathyaprasad, HOD, Dept. Of Pedodontics has been instrumental in bringing out this beautiful souvenir and also for organising a Short Film Competition on the great man who made all of this a living reality, the architect of Sullia, none other than Late Kurunji Venkatramana Gowda.
More than 55 programmes were celebrated/conducted in this journey from October 2015 to October 2016. Along with special programmes regular celebrations of Dental Premier league, Children’s Day, No Tobacco Day, OMFS Day, Onam, Teacher’s Day and so much more with vigour, zest and zeal.
“A TEACHER IS ALSO FOREVER A STUDENT”
Keeping the essence of the above lines alive, an exclusive 2 days Teacher’s Training Programme was conducted by eminent resource persons from Manipal University on September 15th and 16th. This programme updated the teaching skills of our staff members thereby taking a big step towards providing quality dental health education.
Over 150 guest speakers, distinguished stalwarts especially in the field of dentistry visited our college and have shared insights into their successful lives enriched with perseverance and treasured experience.
October 1st& 2nd witnessed distinguished guests, alumni and alumni staff members all coming together and joining hands in the celebrations of the Silver Jubilee of this glorious institution.
